Reimagining and Enhancing Existing Content

Butler’s Foundations of Mental Health Counseling course presented a unique design challenge. The course’s faculty, Professor Aaron Munson, had already created an online version of the course for a previous term. To take this online course from good to great, our learner experience group worked to make sure that the volume of content in the course was not overwhelming and to think about the most thoughtful way of delivering it to an online audience.

These solutions demonstrate how Wiley’s industry leading custom tools, technology, beautiful visuals, and top-notch designers work with faculty to turn an overwhelming amount of course content into an essential, digestible core of learning materials.

Professor Munson put a priority on communicating concepts in a way that would allow students to process what they’re learning and take it with them into the real world. With this understanding, Wiley’s solution was to use graphics to create visual frameworks for big ideas, and to integrate interactive media that would allow students to actively engage with the big ideas of the course as they went.

Professor Munson shared valuable insights into the course's key processes, particularly focusing on two areas: the continuum of care in mental health counseling, and the ethical decision-making model.

Wiley used H5P to create interactive books for the ethical decision-making model. This approach allowed students to download their written content as a PDF, facilitating their semester-long project — the Mental Health Counselor Toolkit.

H5P was also used for the continuum of care process, using books and accordions to illustrate the complex process effectively. The result was a visually engaging and informative resource that aided students in understanding and mastering the concept.
